Promotion of healthy living is high on the strategic agenda of EU4Health 2021-2027. Many EU innovation projects focus on monitoring health and coaching healthy living. Current innovation projects generally aim to develop stand-alone digital coaches (e.g. avatars, apps) that provide feedback and guide the user. The underlying challenge, i.e. behavior change, however is a complex challenge that might better be addressed through a blended approach: the digital coach and the healthcare professional collaborate in coaching the patient. This presentation provides an overview of the challenge of behavior change in the context of a project on healthy nutrition, in which an embodied digital coach collaborates with a nutrition expert, and presents ongoing design research activities towards a collaborative approach to coaching.
