Gerontechnology is about designing for people. As defined by the International Society for Gerontechnology (ISG), “Gerontechnology: designing technology and environment for independent living and social participation of older persons in good health, comfort, and safety.”
Gerontechnology Research Center (GRC) of Yuan Ze University, Taiwan, was established in 2003, the pioneering research instituted in Taiwan. However, Seda G-Tech Co. Ltd., a start-up company spin-off from GRC in 2016, completely shifted the mindset. Gerontechnology research is only valuable if the research can become real products for daily applications. The whole design process extends from creativity and prototype in university to actual products and sales. The experience will be shared in this presentation, including what seemed to work and what did not.
